A sports bra versus a support bra after a breast operation?

Although there can be some overlap between sports bras and compression bras, they are generally different in design and purpose.

A sports bra is specifically made to support and protect the breasts during sports and exercise activities. They are often made from stretchy and breathable materials to provide comfort and freedom of movement, while firmly holding the breasts in place to reduce unwanted movement and discomfort. Sports bras come in various levels of support, depending on the impact of the activity.

A compression bra, on the other hand, is designed to provide pressure to the breasts, applying force to limit the range of motion of the breast tissue. Compression bras are often used after breast surgery or as support for lymph swelling. They can also be used by women with sensitive breasts who benefit from extra support and pressure.

Although some sports bras can also provide compression, not all sports bras are by definition compression bras. It is important to look at the specific design and purpose of a bra to determine whether it is a sports bra, a compression bra, or both, depending on your needs and intended use.
